Episode 34 - Mick Stierli

Mick Stierli is a Sergeant with the New South Wales Police Force based in Sydney, Australia where he performs the role of Health and Fitness officer, Physical Training Instructor’s Coordinator, he is also a Weapons and Defensive Tactics Instructor. He initiated the creation of the Physical Training Instructors (PTI) program that was designed, developed and implemented within the organization as a result of identifying corporate deficiencies in previous methods and practices with regards to training principles and the training provided. This program included design and integration across the organisation of curriculum development, training delivery and mentoring of the PTI’s throughout the state of NSW. 

He also implemented the first tactical strength and conditioning conference. This conference was attended by members of Australian interstate police forces, Fire departments and the military. This conference was the first of its kind in Australia and the southern hemisphere, it allowed for the exchanging of ideas, procedures and protocols within existing law enforcement populations and with other members of the tactical strength and conditioning community. This conference is currently entering into its eighth consecutive year. Sgt Stierli has recently accepted an invitation to join the Bond University Tactical Research Unit as both a researcher and subject matter expert. 

Outside of the Tactical environment, He also has extensive experience working with elite athletes and is currently a member of the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs High Performance Unit in the National Rugby League (NRL) Competition.

Mick is a frequently sought after presenter both in Australia and Internationally, on topics such as human performance, physical preparation, injury prevention, and Tactical Strength and Conditioning. He is an associate editor for the NSCA’s TSAC Journal and is the education coordinator and international liaison for the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA) TSAC program

Mick is the recipient of the 2013 NSW Police Commissioners Award for the best individual contribution to workplace health and safety. Sergeant Stierli is also the winner of the 2013 Treasury Managed Fund Award for Excellence in Injury Management. In 2014 he was awarded the NSW Police Medal. In 2015 he was highly commended in the Treasury Managed Fund award for Innovative Design for the NSW Police Force Reconditioning Program. In 2016 he was again highly commended in treasury managed fund for Innovative design for the NSW Police “Moving better, together” project.

He also won the NSCA’S TSAC Facilitator of the Year for 2016
