Dr. Monisha Vasa is a board certified General and Addiction Psychiatrist in Newport Beach, California.  She works with first responders in her practice, using psychotherapy, mindfulness, self compassion, and medication management to address common issues such as trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, suicidality, and substance abuse.  She is also on the volunteer clinical faculty at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, where she addresses similar challenges with physicians and physicians-in-training.  In addition to her practice, Dr. Vasa recently went back to school at Columbia University to study an emerging field called Narrative Medicine, which brings together literature, visual arts, and reflective writing to help doctors and other health care providers better understand patient stories, as well as their own, as a way to deliver more effective and just health care.  In her spare time, Dr. Vasa spends as much time as possible with her two kids, loves to write creative non fiction and poetry on her blog, and is interested in health and fitness, including long distance running.
