Episode 397 - Todd Edwards and Danny Dwyer

Todd Edwards is a 38 year veteran of the fire service. Among other projects, he is the co-founder of Mission Resurrection with fellow Georgia firefighter Danny Dwyer. We discuss firefighter fitness, realism in training, the current pandemic, the power of mentorship, leadership and much more.

Todd Edwards has over 36 years of experience in the fire services. Starting his career at 16 years old with a small combination department in Ohio, Todd then moved to Georgia where he spent more than 30 years with Atlanta Fire Rescue.  During his career with Atlanta, he held a variety of positions including Captain, Battalion Chief and Assistant Fire Chief.  While with Atlanta, Todd developed and taught the majority of the city training curriculum, and co-developed the city Standard Operating Guidelines. 

After retiring in 2018, he served the city as a consultant and the lead instructor / coordinator for Atlanta’s Officer Development Program.  While working with Atlanta, Todd was also the Lead Instructor for Walton County Fire Rescue in northeast Georgia.  For the past 20 years, Todd has alsobeen an adjunct instructor for the Georgia Fire Academy.  Todd has also developed countless training programs currently be utilized by numerous departments, specializing in department-based curriculums for training and fire ground operations.

In 2016 Edwards started Fire-Life Training Associates, and Breaking Barriers, which specializes in disabilities awareness training for first responders, and interactive training for families with children that have special needs.   Through both of these companies, Todd travels and provides superior training nationwide.

In 2020, Todd co-founded Mission Resurrection with John’s Creek Firefighter (and Fire Life Training staff member) Danny Dwyer.

Todd is also a co-host with Fire Life Training staff member Anthony Rowett, on the Generation Engine podcast on Fire Engineering Blog Talk Radio. Todd Edwards has been recognized numerous times, including receiving the Award of Merit for Bravery and the Fire Chief’s Award of Distinction.

Todd has been married for 30 years to Kathy Edwards, and they currently live in Cumming, Georgia.  Together Todd and Kathy spend a large amount of their time with their newly married daughter Jordan, and her husband Nathan, and their son Zachary and his significant other Kymberlie.  Todd and Kathy love traveling together, THE Ohio State Buckeye’s football, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Danny Dwyer entered the fire service 21 years ago, by joining the Cherokee County Fire Department in Northwest Georgia, and then moved to the Dekalb County Georgia Fire Department.  Knowing that he wanted to work within a busier fire department, In 2005 he joined Atlanta Fire Rescue. While in Atlanta, he was assigned to Engine 13 and Company 10 as a fireman, Companies 14 and 1 as an FAO, Company 2, 1 and 16 as a Lieutenant and retired in May of 2020 as a Captain on Engine 9 in West Atlanta.

After retiring, he joined the fire department in John's Creek, Georgia as a tailboard fireman.  He is a Georgia Fire Academy adjunct instructor, Public Safety Diver, 1403 Instructor and a Nationally Registered Paramedic. Danny enjoys developing new officers, OICs, and live fire training. 

In 2020, Danny co-founded Mission Resurrection with Todd Edwards. Danny is married with a daughter and currently resides in Canton, Georgia.
