Episode 382 - Dr Chris Colvin

Dr. Chris Colvin is an ER physician, EMS medical director and author. We discuss his tragic high school years, the event that led him to medicine, treating the Fort Hood terror attack victims, COVID-19 through an ER physician's eyes, mental health, writing catharsis, his new books and much more.

Physician:

Dr. Christopher Colvin is the emergency department medical director at Seton Medical Center Harker Heights, where he also serves as Vice-Chief of Staff. He has worked in the hospital’s ED since shortly after it opened in 2012 and was named medical director in 2013. He is also the Medical Director for the Killeen Fire Department and EMT Academy.

 In Harker Heights, Dr. Colvin has facilitated Chest Pain Center accreditation and Trauma Center accreditation, is facilitating pursuit of Stroke Accreditation, serves on multiple committees, and has managed the 17-bed ED as it has rapidly grown and evolved to serve nearly 60,000 patients per year.

 For nearly a decade, Colvin served as a major in the United States Army Reserves, including service at Fort Hood, TX with the 1st Cavalry and at Fort Drum, NY with the 10th Mountain Division. During that time, from 2006-2012, he worked as an emergency physician at Scott & White Memorial Hospital, Scott and White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, and Scott & White Children’s Hospital in Temple, TX.

 Dr. Colvin completed his bachelor’s degree at Southwest Texas State University and went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where he graduated AOA. He completed his emergency medicine residency at Scott & White Memorial Hospital and was honored with the Scott & White Distinguished Alumni Award in 2008.

C.S. Colvin is a physician writer of poetry and the fantasy series: "Hippocrates and The Hobgoblin". Born and raised in the Southwest U.S., he grew up in the outdoors with a rich appreciation of wildlife and exploration. Although he wrote at a young age, and went to college to become a writer, Colvin ultimately followed a path toward medicine. He currently resides in the Southwest, and when not working in the ER, he enjoys spending time in the outdoors with his family, pen, and imagination in hand.
